If you’ve been following my antics on Instagram you already know what I’ve been excited about this past week – a new shipment of knitwear. Close to a year ago I mentioned that I was working on my own brand; the project has been through plenty of ups and downs since then and has become more of a side project than a full-time gig, but I’m still putting quite a bit of time into creating new products.
The sweaters that just landed might be my favorite product yet. I started working on this little project at the beginning of 2018, and although the production took quite a bit of time the result was exactly as good as I hoped it would be.
The sweaters are made out of merino wool from Australia (where the most prized Merino sheep are). The wool is then sent to Donegal, Ireland, an area known for its fabrics that have flecks of color. While the word “donegal” pops up frequently in menswear, it’s rarely from the actual placed that came up with this style.
Once the yarn is woven, it heads to a remote part of Scotland. The knitting factory is family owned, has been operating for over 100 years, and specializes in fully fashioned knits. The result is a sweater with no seams at all, knit into one continuous piece. The awesome saddle shoulder construction and deeply ribbed cuffs, neck, and waist are all really wonderful to look at and wear.
The sweaters are available in three earthy colors – peat, moss, and sandstone. I picked colors that reminded me of the damp months in Oregon where I grew up, and they all came out great. Each one is full of multicolored flecks – bits of orange, blue, purple, and more peek out when you look closely. The end result is visually interesting without being overly loud.
I’m really delighted with how these came out and I wanted to share them here before they’re gone. We’ve currently sold about a third of the inventory, so some sizes have begun to sell out. We priced them are aggressively as possible at $175 – I don’t think you’ll find anything like them at this price. Plus, orders placed today will arrive for Christmas (not that you’ll be giving this to anyone else or anything).
So go check them out, and let me know what you think! This has been a fun project to work on and I hope that I can expand on it for next year. To me, this sort of clothing is exactly what I like to wear – a bit dressed up, a bit casual, visually interesting but not too loud. And don’t forget – chinos and umbrellas are also in stock, just in case you need something to complete the look.
