Kinda feels like this is a blog about shoes lately, hasn’t it? It’s juste a coincidence, I promise. Anyway, here’s a noteworthy sale for those that don’t like spending $500+ on footwear but still like nice things (a group that includes myself).
Loake is a popular entry-level footwear brand that is the first pair of welted shoes that many people own (they were one of my firsts several years ago). The biggest issue with Loake is that, like many other international brands gaining attention online, they changed their pricing structure recently to make competition more fair between international retailers. While this sort of move makes sense (most major footwear brands have done something similar), it means that the price of Loake shoes went up by around 50% for U.S. customers. Prices seemed to have settled a bit (from around $400 to around $300-350), and East Dane‘s current sale brings them down even more. That’s why this sale is notable – it’s an opportunity to try Loake footwear at the “old prices,” and with free shipping/easy returns to boot (also, East Dane is totally not supposed to be discounting these, so who knows how often it will happen).
Here are all the styles. The code EOTS17 will get you 20% off (or 25% of $500+). Note that these are listed in UK size, so you will probably have to go down one full size from your standard US size (I’m a 8.5 and wear 7.5 in all Loake shoes I’ve tried). Some of my favorites:
Aldwych Captoe Oxford ($272): a handsome oxford (shown above), available in black and mahogany. I’ve handled these in person and think they’re a great buy. I would prefer this to the Allen Edmonds Park Avenue any day.
Kempton Chukka Boot ($240): A solid suede chukka boot, another top seller for the brand.
Mitchum Suede Chelsea ($224): A screaming deal on some great chelseas. My super-scientific twitter poll tells me that everyone is getting off on chelsea boots right now, so if you want to try the style out with something nice but don’t want to spend too much, this is what I’d recommend.
Of course, this sale includes hundreds of brands, so if you’re on the prowl for something else it may be worth digging around. For instance, Filson briefcases are included, as are sneakers by Superga (a favorite of mine). Heck, it even applies to A.P.C. denim, another favorite that’s rarely on sale. Go nuts!
