Well, we’re here – it’s the biggest shopping week of the year. Over the years I’ve participated less and less in Black Friday, but it’s hard to deny that there are some great deals to be had. My recommendation is to only buy things that you would have purchased anyway, as to reduce spontaneous spending and focus on getting a good deal. With that said, I’ve included some of my favorite sales below – these are things that I already own or would love to add to my arsenal in the coming year. This is far from a complete list, but you can find those elsewhere. I will update this list over the next two days as new deals catch my eye, so keep visiting!
Skaotiebolaget: Their Black Friday sale section is full of good deals on great footwear. Check out Carlos Santos and their house label Lof & Tung for high-value footwear at accessible prices.
J. Crew: Welp, it looks like they’ve upped the discount to 50% off everything (excluding third party items) with code ‘TGIF’. This is as good of a deal as you’ll every find on their full-priced items (though it works on sale items too), so now is the time if you have anything on your wishlist. Some favorites:
- Canoeist smock in ripstocp cotton and Ventile, $149+.
- M-65 field jacket, $59.
- Abraham Moon tweed sportcoats, $149.
- Field Mechanic jacket, $98.
- 484-fit chinos, in cotton and stretch cotton, $34.
- Dock peacoat, $149.
- The whole Wallace and Barnes collection
- Raglan sleeve topcoat in wool, $238
- A bunch of velvet blazers and pants for New Year’s Eve!
Unionmade: One of the country’s best men’s boutiques is offering 20% off orders of $250+ with the code “BLACKFRIDAY”. There seem to be a couple of exclusions – like Alden – but lots of great stuff if up for grabs. Some eligible products (if total order is over $250):
- Tons of sweaters from Harley, one of my favorite knitwear brands
- Lots of Filson bags, including the very popular 256 and 257 (I prefer the smaller 256).
- Jackets from Golden Bear
- A variety of cool sweaters from Howlin’
- a large selection of Levi’s Vintage Clothing
- lots more! Be sure to check out other brands that Unionmade carries.
Stag Provisions: 20% off outerwear and pants with code “FRIDAY20” at checkout. There are lots of deals to be had, but this is a particuarly good time to get good prices on brands like RRL and Schott. For example:
- Slim fit rigid jeans, one of my favorite cuts of denim. Size down one in the waist.
- Officer Chinos. Also in olive.
- This great shawl cardigan.
- Leather jackets, peacoats, and more from Schott. For example: brown cafe racer, black moto, classic peacoat.
- Lots of other things! Check out the full brand list.
Sons of Henrey: 20% off all footwear (30% off if you buy 2 or more pairs with the code “BLACKFRIDAY”). This brand is relatively new (launched earlier this year), but is already putting out handsome footwear made in Spain from great materials. With the discount and VAT reduction, these are all around $260 – $280 shipped – a solid price for any good shoe. More info on this brand coming next week.
Spier & Mackay: For those that still have opportunities to wear tailored clothing, Spier & Mackay has quickly become the best source for high-value menswear. The code “BF18” will get you 20% off their already aggressively low prices. It’s a great time to stock up on staple suits or sportcoats. Sales and bundle items included. Lots of half-canvassed tailored clothing made from great fabrics under $300!
Okayama Denim: 20% off of a bunch of famed Japanese denim brands with the code “ARIGATO20“. Their prices are already about as low as you’ll see with these brands (things like Studio D’Artisan, Pure Blue Japan, Momotaro, and more), so the discounted price is pretty impressive.
Quality Shop: 20% off orders over 200 euros) (and 10% off over 100 euros). There are lots of goodies to choose from, but these boots from Carlos Santos are almost identical to my pair and about $250 after VAT reduction. Check out the complete list of brands for many other good buys.
Mr. Porter: One of the best menswear-focused e-commerce sites is always an excellent source of sales for high-end items. Priced tend to be high, but these are items that are very hard to find with any discount at all. This season is particularly well-stocked with epic grail items that are now 30% off. Be warned that stock tends to move quickly.
- Orslow 107 Jeans: you can see my pair here. I wear these almost every day. Highly recommended.
- Golden Bear: This excellent outerwear company makes all of their stuff about a mile from my apartment. My favorite is this shearling-lined leather bomber jacket – a great piece for around $700.
- RRL: I love Ralph’s western-inspired label, and their handknit cardigans are on my grail list.
- Valstar: one of the best sources for leather and suede outerwear. Their unlined bombers are especially great – I hope to add the dark brown one to my collection someday.
- Drakes: The official menswear tastemaker has all sorts of great stuff these days. While they’re most known for their accessories, check out their knitwear and outerwear as well.
Grant Stone: The great new footwear brand that I mentioned earlier this year is offering deep discounts on a select group of styles. It’s a great time to purchase if you’ve been curious about their products.
Abercrombie & Fitch: Both styles of the Dad Coat (1, 2) are 50% off. My full review is here. Hard to beat for $150 shipped! Oh, and I suppose the rest of the store is 50% off too.
Self Edge: One of the world’s best denim and workwear shops will be offering 15% off with the code “BlackFriday2018”, starting on Friday 11/23. While it doesn’t feel like much, keep in mind that this is pretty much the only opportunity to get these items at discount. This is a great time to get something from 3Sixteen – my favorite is their classic SL-100x, but it’s hard to go wrong with any of their stuff. Merz B. Schwanen makes some exceptional casual knits that are worth checking out as well. They also have a solid selection of masculine jewelry, so don’t forget the accessories section!
